First appearing over 520 million years ago during the Cambrian Period, Trilobites were among the first complex life forms to thrive in the world’s oceans, inhabiting shallow continental shelves across every major continent. They could burrow through sediment, crawl along the seafloor, or swim short distances in search of food. Their Calcite-rich exoskeletons not only provided protection but also fossilized with ease, allowing their details to be preserved. These exoskeletons were molted as the Trilobites grew, leaving behind fossils that can be treasured by collectors and educators to this day. Artifacts of biological history, these fossils are an excellent example of these ancient extinct creatures, with brown coloring and distinctive details that showcase the three-lobed form of which Trilobites derive their name.
